Mushroom Dye Exhibit & Demonstration
The Mushroom Dye Exhibit and Workshop were a great success!! Many thanks to Dorothy Beebee and Nancy Denison, for sharing their wealth of knowledge, history and materials on the subject. In 15 minutes, Dorothy provided the forty year history of making colors from mushrooms, which was started right here in Mendocino by her friend, Miriam Rice! She prepared two pots of dye using mushrooms (cortinarius semisanguineus and phaeolus schweinitzii) that yielded dusky rose and golden hues. Fifteen participants tied, twisted, knotted and rubber-banded silk or silk-wool blend scarves that went into the dye pots to create their own unique designs. Many more came to watch and take in the exhibit. Hopefully the participants, who came from Reno, Fortuna, the Bay Area and right here at home, will be inspired to continue the experiment Miriam started with mushrooms for color. Our continued gratitude to the Ford House Museum for hosting us and the event, in addition to our monthly meetings.

If anyone finds any mushrooms, please bring them for show and tell. If you have mushroom books, bring them to help with identification.
This will be our last meeting of the season. Meetings will resume again in September.

Mushroom Dinner - Chefs Planning Meeting
This is a special planning meeting of the Chefs for the upcoming Mushroom Dinner.

Attending Chefs: Molly Bee, Alison Gardner and Tom Jelen. Chad Hyatt, our fourth chef, is in the Bay Area and won’t attend but we will have information from him on dishes and his needs.
Also in attendance will be Dana Fox, Eric Schramm, Evan Mills, Pat Ferrero and Jill Surdzial. We will cover all the logistics, budget, supplies (especially mushrooms) and all other needs of the chefs.
